It is with deep sorrow that I inform you of the passing of our Holy Father, Pope Francis. He died at 7:35am Rome time today, Monday, April 21, 2025. The Church begins nine days of mourning (the Novemdiales).
Our parish will hold the following memorial masses to pray for the repose of his soul and to celebrate his life:
Monday, April 28, 8:30am at St. Mark (also live streamed)
Monday, April 28, 7:00pm at St. Mel
All the faithful are encouraged to pray for the repose of his soul and in gratitude for his ministry. My suggestions to you, especially if you cannot come to our memorial masses:
For families with very young children: consider praying with them the simple and traditional Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be.
For individuals and families: devotionals like saying the rosary.
For personal prayer: prayer before the tabernacle is always encourage. St. Mel Church is open weekdays from 8:30am to 4:00pm, Saturdays from 9:30am to the vigil mass.
Pope Francis served the Church with compassion and the heart of a gentle shepherd. His leadership, marked by humility and a special concern for the poor and marginalized, has touched the lives of countless individuals around the world. We mourn his loss and give thanks for his extraordinary ministry.
